Rome hosts the second edition of the International Conference on Sustainability Science.
Meeting between academia and industry in order to identify the best economic and social strategies to preserve our planet.


The science of sustainability, built in the early 21st century, is a discipline that has seen the light inside of academia. The name emphasizes the goal, namely to give the comprehensive concept of sustainability in a more analytical and structured . Here is that science is based on the concepts of sustainable development and environmental science. The

sustainable development represents a specific global approach aims to combine human needs with the will-need to respect the environment. It provides many local actions in the short to medium term, which must necessarily lead to broader programs of worldwide impact, addressed to future generations. The environmental science
instead identifies a common field, which converge in several disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology with the aim of identifying and solving environmental problems. It provides both a socio-cultural approach that more technology to improve the quality of the environment and our approach to it.

The science of sustainability, then through the strands of sustainable development and environmental science, provides qualitative information on how to implement sustainability .
In parallel, as a result of any action on the field promulgated by the science of sustainability, will be identified precise methods, designed to monitor and quantitatively assess the results in order to better target interventions for sustainability.

Following the first International Conference on Sustainability Science (ICSS), held at the University of Tokyo in February 2009, now at the University La Sapienza in Rome was inaugurated the second edition.
Rome Conference has the support of the Institute for Peace and Sustainability at the United Nations University (UNUISP) in Tokyo, the Interuniversity Research Centre for Sustainable Development (CIRPS) the Sapienza University of Rome, Systems of Integrated Research Center for Sustainability Science (IR3S) University of Tokyo and the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University. The objective of

International Conference on Sustainability Science in Rome (23-25 \u200b\u200bJune 2010) , through the implementation of an interdisciplinary dialogue between different sciences, is to give impetus to the field sustainability in the academic world. This may represent the starting point for a meeting between representatives of the transverse centers of scientific research on sustainability, with industry, civil society and public institutions.
ultimate goal is to spread the consciousness of sustainability through the dissemination of information, data and scientific knowledge by the (sometimes) the narrow confines of academia to society as a whole.

We hope that the Rome Conference to contribute to the development of an innovative and effective comprehensive approach for the environment and society, to save man .
